Welcome all to the Johnny Blog! I wanted to get a decent backlog of posts before officially declaring this blog up and running and now that that's done you can expect something of a regular output from here on out. I'll be posting decklists, reviews, drafting tips, and other articles from a Johnny slant.
First and foremost, I wanted to give a huge thanks to The Munson's Apps for their help in setting the autocard feature up. I'm not the most tech-savvy guy out there, but they were able to effortlessly walk me through everything. Give them a visit if you have any coding needs!
Now, a little about myself:
I've been playing Magic on and off since the days of Revised, but only seriously picked it up around Coldsnap. As the blog suggests I'm more of a Johnny than anything else; I play for fun, not necessarily to win (although I do enjoy winning). The majority of preconstructed games my friends and I play are Vintage house rules (the only difference being that banned cards are now restricted), along with a bit of Commander. More often than not, though, we can be found obsessively drafting the latest set every weekend, so I'll be sharing my thoughts on that as well.
My approach to deckbuilding is always based on an initial concept (how to benefit from my opponents drawing cards, or how to play around with counters, for example). I've been building a lot of Commander decks that I will mostly play in Vintage; the reason being that the singleton rule allows me to include a wider range of cards that normally wouldn't make the cut, and the style of play is more synergistic and unpredictable, making every game a new experience. (But more on this in a future post.)
I of course welcome comments and criticism, so don't be shy to give me suggestions on how to improve a decklist, tell me how it performed for you, or just outright tell me that you think it stinks.
